Zenyatta Next Race Final Workout Lady's Secret Stakes

Zenyatta's final work for the Lady's Secret Stakes.

Zenyatta worked 6-furlong in 1:13.80 on Saturday at Hollywood Park in preparation of the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes.

Zenyatta, preparing to try and extend her win streak to 19 in a row, will have her final race in California next Saturday before heading East to attempt back-to-back wins in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, scheduled for November 6th at Churchill Downs.

“The time of Saturday’s workout was only the 15th best of 23 recorded works at the distance. It would have been a lot quicker if jockey Mike Smith had urged her. Smith tracked stablemate El Vino for the first half-mile, moved to the outside in the stretch, and guided Zenyatta to the front by about three-quarters of a length after six furlongs. El Vino was timed in 1:14.20, the 18th best of 23 recorded times.” – ESPN

Blame’s Next Race – Jockey Club Gold Cup

Wanting to give Blame, the leading contender for the Jockey Club Gold Cup, a little bit more rest after his last two workouts, trainer Al Stall Jr. decided to skip his planned workout Sunday in preference of a Monday blowout at Keeneland.

‘He’s had two very strong works the last two Sundays, and I’m wanting to give him just a little more time before he goes an easy half-mile,” said Stall.

After a few week lull in headline races, we look forward to next week’s Grade 1 $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.  This will be his last race prior to the November

Zenyatta’s Next Race – Lady’s Secret Stakes

The undefeated super-mare, Zenyatta, who’s 18 for 18 lifetime, is among 14 fillies and mares nominated to the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Hollywood Park.  The Lady’s Secret Stakes, renamed the Zenyatta Stakes after Zenyatta’s short retirement last year, will definitely be Zenyatta’s next race.

The most significant nomination, not named Zenyatta, for the Lady’s Secret is Kentucky Oaks winner Blind Luck.  Blind Luck is the leading 3-year old filly after dismantling Devil May Care at Saratoga, and looks to out duel Zenyatta as a deep stretch closer.  Also on the nomination chart is Zardana, also trained by John Shirreffs, and famous for her upset win over Rachel Alexandra to start off the 2010 season.

Zenyatta's Next Start Breeders' Cup Stakes Hollywood Park Oak TreeJohn Shirreffs has announced that Zenyatta will make her last start prior to the Breeders’ Cup Classic during Oak Tree at Hollywood Park in the $250,000 Zenyatta Breeders’ Cup Stakes.  This race will likely be scheduled for October 2nd and will be run over 1 1/16 miles.

The Zenyatta Breeders’ Cup Stakes, previously known as the Lady’s Secret Breeders’ Cup Stakes, was renamed by Oak Tree officials last year after Zenyatta went on to dominate the boys, becoming the first ever winner of the BC Classic.

Zenyatta, who’s based out of Hollywood Park, will try and notch win #19.  About picking this race, Sherriffs said, “It’s home.  It was successful last yer and you like to repeat what is successful.”

We here at HorseRacingInside.com sure want it to be.  We’re rooting for Zenyatta all the way to a 20 for 20 perfect record and the title of Breeders’ Cup Classic Two-Time Champion.
