Lisa's Booby Trap training with Kent Desormeaux on board.
I’m a little afraid to make this post after Kantharos coming up injured and subsequently retired after we put him as our #1 2-year old, made a Facebook fan page, and wrote an article on the ill-fated workout…
However, this story is too good to not share. The horse’s name is Lisa’s Booby Trap. She’s owned by a seasoned horseman, Tim Snyder. She’s undefeated in 4 starts, three at Finger Lakes, the fourth in the Loudonville Stakes at Saratoga.
She was sold for $4,500 to Snyder. He put up $2,000, the last nickel to his name, and promised the other $2,500 if she won. She’s gone on to win by a combined 40 lengths and earnings of $75.5k.
Why is this horse special? The story and struggle of both horse and trainer. Lisa’s Booby Trap struggled with feet and leg issues. She’s still very fragile, which is why Snyder is putting her on turf for the first time today.
Snyder was all but broke. He put everything he had into this horse, and trains her himself. He’s turned down $500,000 offers for her. But why?
Lisa’s Booby Trap is named after the late Lisa Snyder, Tim’s wife, who dies of ovarian cancer in 2003. On her dying bed, she told Snyder that she would come back as a horse. Maybe Tim saw something in Lisa’s Booby Trap’s eyes when he originally purchased her. Maybe it was luck.
Regardless, Lisa’s Booby Trap continues to run on fragile legs and continues to win. It’s hard not to root for this couple.
You can watch and bet on the race tonight in the 9th race at Saratoga only at TwinSpires.

Kantharos worked 5f TT ft in 1:03.80 B (6/7) at SAR on 08/30/10.
We’re waiting to hear more information about this workout. Kantharos is a VERY talented 2-year old that we have on our list, as well as many others, as the leading contender for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.
You can follow all that’s going on with this young colt at his Facebook Group Page.

Zenyatta, winner of the 2009 Breeders' Cup Championship
With the disappointing finishes this year by reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, the year long battle between East and West just doesn’t seem as pertinent anymore. Since the voting for 2009 Horse of the Year was released, which crowned Rachel Alexandra and her amazing 3-year old campaign, the horse racing world has been abuzz with arguments over which horse would win in an actual race.
We all thought we’d see the historic matchup with the release from Oaklawn Park that an additional $5 million would be added to the purse of the 2010 Apple Blossom if both Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra were to show up. Zenyatta ended up winning the Apple Blossom, but after Rachel Alexandra lost her 2010 campaign opener in the New Orleans to Zardana, she skipped the race.
Rachel Alexandra hasn’t been able to pull it back together, and is now 2 wins in 5 tries thus far in 2010, including the recent upset loss in the Personal Ensign at Saratoga. Zenyatta, however, has stretched her winning streak to 18 in a row, and continues towards her date with destiny, the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Championship at Churchill Downs, where she’ll try to finish off her career at a perfect 20 for 20, unprecedented winner of back to back Championships, and title of Horse of the Year.
But she’s sure to face an extremely tough and talented 2010 Breeders’ Cup Championship field, which could include Blame, Lookin’ At Lucky, Quality Road, Haynesfield, and a host of other top notch contenders!
So the questions that still remain are:
Who do you think would win now between Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta?

One of TVG’s very own, Ken Rudolph, made an appearance on last night’s episode of ‘True Blood’. The hit HBO series is in it’s 3rd season and continues to be a chart topper amongst the Sunday night hits.
Ken Rudolph, one of the live racing hosts and handicappers on TVG, acted as a news anchor and delivered news about a raid on the King Vampire of Louisiana’s house turned up nothing. TVG, recently acquired by BetFair, is a staple in the Southern California racing circuit. Maybe if Ken makes it big he can throw some shout outs to the horse racing industry!
